Post Adoption Services
Post Legal Adoption service continues to be a growing area of request for service. With increased staff at the Post Adoption Registry in Winnipeg now actively involved in carrying out searches on behalf of adopted adults, the number or reunions with birth family members has increase significantly.
Since the inception of the active registry in 1986, through our resultant work with all members of the adoption triad, including the adoptee, adoptive parents and the birth parents, we have learned a great deal about the needs of all participants for the life long process of adoption. We are now integrating this knowledge in our ongoing work with those newly entering the adoption process.
As of October 1, 1994, the Province of Manitoba applied fees for the following services:
· Adult adoptees, birth parents, adoptive parents and adult birth siblings pay a $35.00 registration fee when they complete their respective forms to register their desire to be on the Post Adoption Registry.
· Adult adoptees can request an active outreach be done for their birth mother and/or birth father and/or adult birth siblings not placed for adoption.
· The search fee of $265 plus the actual costs of any search of Vital Statistic records will be charged to registered adult adoptees for the first (initial) search performed by the Post Adoption Registry.
· A fee of $180 plus the actual cost of any search of Vital Statistics records will be charged to a registered adult adoptee for each search performed subsequent to the first (initial) search.
When the Post Adoption Registry is ready to begin a search, the registered adopted adult will be contacted and asked to submit the appropriate search fee (an adult adoptee's "turn" comes up based on their date of registration).
No search will begin until the Post Adoption Registry receives the necessary fees, although, a waiver of fees is possible when the registrants are in receipt of financial assistance.
