About us

Child and Family Services of Western Manitoba exists
so that children are safe and nurtured in strong, loving families
within a community of caring people.

Child and Family Services of Western Manitoba (CFS Western) is a private, non-profit, community-based charitable agency, directed by a community-elected and community-represented volunteer Board of Directors, who has led us in effectively serving the needs of Westman children and families for over 110 years.

Since 1899, when that small volunteer Board also served as Agency staff, we have evolved to a over 100 permanent full-time staff as well as many part-time employees, casual staff, and over 70 volunteers who selflessly donate their time and energy to our programs.

Just as our staff has grown, so have the variety of programs and services we offer Westman communities, along with the partnerships we have built to provide families with even more resources. And, as family needs and challenges are always evolving, so is our response to these changes.

Our services seek to support families as well as protect children. We believe that offering families with healthy and positive resources can help lead to fewer of them in crisis with fewer children coming into our care. Our Agency can provide the support, knowledge and a variety of opportunities to enhance the most important job a parent can have: raising their children as healthy, productive, successful and caring community citizens.

CFS Western also operates the Elspeth Reid Family Resource Centre, a Family and Community Development Centre, two residential group homes, a Preschool Enrichment Program and the Victoria Day Care Centre. We also have social workers in 11 different rural communities and their surrounding areas across southwestern Manitoba.
